Alcaraz eliminates Murray

Carlos Alcaraz won the „duel of the generations” in the second round of the Erste Bank Open against Andy Murray. The 18-years old Spaniard won 6-3, 6-4 after a bit more than 2 hours against the two-times Vienna champion. Alcaraz also took revenge for the three-sets loss in Indian Wells just shortly ago.

Bitter loss for Murray
It was the first loss for Murray on Viennese soil. For a long time, the three-times Grand Slam-champion was able to keep up with the much younger Spaniard, but in the end, youth prevailed.

Berrettini waits in the quarter finals
There were four breaks in the first set, with three of them in favor of Alcaraz. In the second set, Murray obviously struggled with his shape and Alcaraz relentlessly hammered the ball from left to right. The deciding break came in the final game of the match when Murray hit a backhand into the net. Alcaraz reached the quarter finals in Vienna already in his first appearance here, where he will meet the tournament’s number 3, Matteo Berrettini. The Italian was able to overcome a first set loss against Indian Wells-finalist Nikoloz Basilashvili (GEO) to come through in three sets 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-3.
