Qualification for the Erste Bank Open started with losses for Austria’s contributions. All three ÖTV players had to bow to their higher ranked opponents.
To kick things off, Lukas Neumayer (ATP 292) lost to Quentin Halys (FRA/ATP 66) 1-6, 4-6. This was followed by a great, but in the end fruitless, effort from Alexander Erler (ATP 769), who was eliminated by Joao Sousa (POR/ATP 67) 6-7 (5), 5-7. Lucas Miedler managed to force J.J. Wolf (USA/56) into a third set but ultimately had to bow 3-6, 6-3, 2-6.
Also advancing to round 2: Oscar Otte (GER), Pedro Cachin (ARG), Thiago Monteiro (BRA).
