Great recognition for the Erste Bank Open. The tennis highlight at Vienna’s Stadthalle, which was expanded this year with the new project “Tennis 2 Go” on the premises of the Wiener Eislauf-Verein, has been voted the best ATP 500 tournament 2021.
Premiere for Vienna
It is the first award of this kind for Vienna’s tennis classic in its long and storied history which reaches back until 1974. Despite the complicated situation, 60,000 fans came to the Erste Bank Open at the Stadthalle and the new “Tennis 2 Go” location. This overwhelming public response combined with the professional support of the players and all the advantages a metropolis like Vienna has to offer were pivotal for declaring the Erste Bank Open the ATP 500 tournament of the year 2021.
“We are very happy that the Erste Bank Open have been voted the best ATP 500 tournament of the year for the first time in its history. This is very special, because this is a poll by the players”, said tournament director Herwig Straka.
“It is a great honor for the whole team, which organizes the event each year highly motivated. We consequently work on evolving the tournament constantly with new ideas and innovations – like ‘Tennis 2 Go’ this year – to offer the players an extraordinary tournament and the fans world-class tennis and entertainment on the highest possible level”, Straka adds.
