It was a fitting end to a thrilling doubles competition at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna. The first set between Lukasz Kubot (POL)/Marcelo Melo (BRA) and Jamie Murray/Neal Skupski (GBR) alone took nearly an hour with the set being decided in the tiebreak. Kubot/Melo kept the upper hand, taking the decider 7-5.
In the second set, the pairing from Poland and Brazil already served on the match at 5-4 but Murray/Skupski were able to get the rebreak and tie the set at 5-5.
The thriller was prolonged, as Kubot/Melo had their hands full, keeping their serve and taking a 6-5 lead. The Brits then found themselves in a 0-40 hole facing three match points. They were able to save the first two but the third sealed their fate. Kubot/Melo took the Erste Bank Open trophy for the third time after 2015 and 2016.
