Diego Schwartzman will meet Dominic Thiem in the final of this year’s Erste Bank Open. The fan favorite from Argentina ousted the higher ranked Frenchman Gael Monfils in just 75 minutes 6-3, 6-2.
Schwartzman was the clear-cut better player on this day, capitalizing on most of his chances. In the first set, Schwartzman broke Monfils on both of his chances while Monfils was unable to convert at least one of his three break points.
It was more of the same in the second set: Schwartzman broke Monfils’ service again twice, while Monfils was unable to capitalize on his only break point. The points in the end were also telling: Of 106 points, 64 points or 60 percent of all points had gone to Schwartzman.
The final against Dominic Thiem will be played on Sunday at 2 pm.
