Kei Nishikori, Japan’s tennis superstar enjoys his first stay in Vienna to the max.
The 28-year old is playing the Erste Bank Open 500 for the first time and equally loves the city and the conditions at Vienna’s Stadthalle: “I try to have a walk through the city every day! It’s certainly one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I hope, I can stay a bit longer. Of course, it’s not so easy to go sightseeing as long as you’re still competing. I’m a bit jealous of my team, because they visited the opera on Wednesday. But it would have been too exhausting for me to sit through the show for three hours”, the world’s no. 11 said twinkling. However, the Japanese superstar enjoyed a special tour through the State Opera already on Monday.
Nishikori also raves about the conditions in the Stadthalle: “I love this court, it fits my tennis perfectly. It has medium pace and the ball bounces well. My first match, where I played nearly three hours, gave me a good rhythm”, Nishikori explained, praising his next opponent Thiem: “Domi has got everything: good service, great forehand, and I personally love his backhand.”
