Top seed is Britain’s Gordon Reid, a 29-time Grand Slam champion, two-time Paralympic gold medalist, and currently world No. 5. Second seed is Stéphane Houdet of France, world No. 6, 24-time Grand Slam winner, and three-time Paralympic gold medalist. Both top seeds receive a first-round bye.
Tournament ambassador Nico Langmann represents Austria as the local hero in this inaugural wheelchair tennis event. He opens against Belgium’s Joachim Gérard, a six-time Grand Slam champion and Paralympic bronze medalist. “It’s going to be an exciting match. He’s had many great achievements and is one of the big names on the tour. I’m looking forward to seeing lots of fans at the Marx Halle,” said Langmann after the draw. The winner will face Reid in the semifinals.
The second first-round match features seven-time Grand Slam champion Maikel Scheffers (NED) against Alwande Sikhosana from South Africa. The winner will meet Houdet in the semifinals.
The doubles event will be played in a round-robin format, with the following pairs: Scheffers/Houdet, Reid/Gérard, and Langmann/Sikhosana.
The wheelchair tennis tournament will take place on the fairplay court at the Marx Halle. The singles final on Saturday will be staged at the Wiener Stadthalle.
