The quarterfinal day starts at 2 p.m. with the match between the number 1 of the tournament, Daniil Medvedev, who is also the defending champion, against Karen Khachanov. The two are good friends and have recently practiced together in Vienna. "He had an injury recently and therefore didn't have it so easy on the tour. But in practice I've already seen: Wow, he's playing really well again and at a great level. He won the first two matches here easily. So he's in good shape and I expect a tough match," said Medvedev.
Directly following is the match of Stefanos Tsitsipas, the number 4 of the tournament, against the Croatian wildcard player Borna Gojo. The Greek is, of course, the clear favorite, but Gojo was impressive in his first two matches.
Mega clash Zverev - Rublev
Not before 5.30 p.m. the next treat is scheduled - a duel between two former Erste Bank Open winners: Alexander Zverev, who triumphed in 2021, will meet the 2020 winner Andrey Rublev. The latter qualified for the ATP Finals in Turin by winning in the round of 16 on Thursday. Rublev wants to take this motivational boost with him against Zverev: "The way he serves, you never know what's going to happen. He's playing better and better now," Rublev is aware, however.
In the fourth and final match of the day, Jannik Sinner, the tournament's No. 2, will face Frances Tiafoe. Sinner easily prevailed in two sets 6-2, 6-4 in the round of 16 against his Italian compatriot and friend Lorenzo Sonego, who sensationally reached the final in the Stadthalle in 2020. Tiafoe had to fight harder to overcome Gael Monfils 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 and book his spot in the quarter-finals.
