Wednesday at the Erste Bank Open 2025 is all about Jannik Sinner. The tournament favorite and 2023 Vienna champion will play his long-awaited first round match– with fans set to enjoy a full day of world-class tennis both at the Wiener Stadthalle and in the Marx Halle.
Play on Center Court kicks off at 1:30 p.m. with Alexei Popyrin taking on Matteo Berrettini, followed by Daniil Medvedev against Portugal’s Nuno Borges. Not before 5:30 p.m., Jannik Sinner will step onto the court to face Germany’s Daniel Altmaier, whom he recently defeated in straight sets in Shanghai.
Altmaier appeared relaxed and upbeat ahead of the match. “I’ve played him three times before, including one five-set win in Paris,” he said at Monday’s Kids’ Press Conference. “It’s going to be an exciting match – not an easy one for him either.” When asked by one of his young interviewers whether he gets nervous before such big matches, Altmaier smiled: “Of course – a bit of nerves is normal. The adrenaline is what makes this sport so special.”
The final match of the day (not before 8:15 p.m.) will be another highlight for local fans: Filip Misolic, who made waves with his opening win over Camilo Ugo Carabelli, will take on the tournament’s No. 3 seed, Alex de Minaur. You can read more about this match here.
Singles and doubles action at Marx Halle
Meanwhile, the Marx Halle will also be buzzing with action from 1:00 p.m. onwards. On the #glaubandich Court and the Fairplay Court, fans can look forward to matches featuring Lucas Miedler (alongside Francisco Cabral against Michelsen/Peers) and Alexander Zverev, who teams up with Marcelo Melo in doubles play.
A packed day of tennis across both venue.
