Top 4 set to clash in the semis

Saturday at the Wiener Stadthalle promises a special highlight: the day begins at 12:30 p.m. with the wheelchair tennis singles final between Gordon Reid (GBR) and Stéphane Houdet (FRA), followed by the two semifinals of the Erste Bank Open – featuring the top four seeds. Four players from the Top 8 of the world rankings in a semifinal – not even a Masters 1000 event has managed that this year.

Jannik Sinner (ITA/ATP 2) vs. Alex de Minaur (AUS/ATP 7)not before 3:00 p.m.

Top seed Jannik Sinner  takes on in-form Australian Alex de Minaur. Sinner advanced with a commanding 6-4, 6-4 win over Alexander Bublik, marking his 19th consecutive indoor victory, while de Minaur reached the final four with a 6-1, 7-6 (4) triumph over Matteo Berrettini – his 40th hard-court win of the season, a record for 2025.

Sinner leads their head-to-head 11-0, having won all previous encounters – including both meetings this year. At the Australian Open, Sinner prevailed 6–3, 6–2, 6–1 in the quarterfinals, and more recently in Beijing, he dropped a set but still closed out the match in three. Both players have impressed in Vienna, reaching the semifinals without dropping a set.

Alexander Zverev (GER/ATP 3) vs. Lorenzo Musetti (ITA/ATP 8)not before 4:30 p.m.

The second semifinal features Alexander Zverev and Lorenzo Musetti, the No. 2 and No. 4 seeds. The Italian faces a well-rested opponent after Zverev advanced without playing when Tallon Griekspoor withdrew from their quarterfinal due to a back injury. Musetti, meanwhile, advanced with a 6-3, 6-4 win over France’s Corentin Moutet, completing the job in 1 hour and 41 minutes.

In their head-to-head record, Musetti leads 3–1. Zverev’s only win came at the 2022 Madrid Masters, while the last three meetings have gone to the Italian. Their most recent clash took place earlier this year at the Rome Masters, where Musetti won in straight sets in front of his home crowd.
