The 2021 Vienna champion cruised past Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi in straight sets and will face Tallon Griekspoor in the quarterfinals.

On a day filled with marathon matches, Alexander Zverev (GER, ATP 3) was all business – calm, efficient, and clinical. Against Italian qualifier Matteo Arnaldi (ATP 72), one break per set was enough for the Hamburg native to seal a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

In the first set, both players held serve until 4-4, when Zverev struck coldly, converting his second break point and serving out the set with confidence after 1 hour and 27 minutes.

In the second set, Zverev wasted no time, breaking Arnaldi early for a 2-1 lead – and from there, it was smooth sailing.

Up next for Zverev is Tallon Griekspoor (NED, ATP 28), who secured his quarterfinal spot on Wednesday with a hard-fought 7-6 (4), 7-6 (2) win over Brandon Nakashima (USA, ATP 32). Their match is scheduled as the second encounter on Center Court (not before 3 p.m.).
