The opening match of the day is already a blockbuster: From 1:30 pm, seventh-seeded American Tommy Paul takes on Andrey Rublev. The 2020 Vienna champion is still searching for his first title of the season and faces a dangerous opponent in his opening match.
Alcaraz faces former Vienna finalist Khachanov
Following that encounter, Carlos Alcaraz makes his first tournament appearance in Vienna in five years. The second-seeded Spaniard faces Karen Khachanov, who reached the Erste Bank Open final in 2024. Alcaraz therefore faces a challenge that should not be underestimated in the opening round.
The Spaniard is looking to regain his competitive rhythm in Vienna. After several weeks without tournament action, the Erste Bank Open’s world-class field provides him with the ideal opportunity to test himself against some of the world’s best players, as he explained during his first press conference on Monday.
Zverev begins his quest for world no. 1
Not before 5:30 pm, top seed Alexander Zverev will step onto Centre Court. The 2021 Vienna champion faces 20-year-old Spaniard Martin Landaluce, who received a wild card into the main draw.
It could be the start of a historic tournament week for Zverev: By reaching the quarter-finals, the German would secure his place at the top of the world rankings. First, however, his full attention will be on the highly rated Spanish talent.
Another high-profile encounter will conclude the day’s action not before 8:00 pm, as fourth-seeded Italian Flavio Cobolli takes on Bulgarian fan favourite Grigor Dimitrov.
Austrian interest at the Marx Halle
Play on the #glaubandich Court at the Marx Halle commences at 11:30 am, initially with two doubles qualifying matches. In the second doubles match of the day, Austria’s Maximilian Neuchrist partners with Skander Mansouri. They face the top-seeded pairing of Sander Arends (NED) and Luke Johnson (GBR) for a place in the second round of qualifying.
The singles main draw also gets under way at the Marx Halle. Not before 3:00 pm, French qualifier Adrian Mannarino takes on Peru’s Ignacio Buse. Cameron Norrie and Francisco Cerundolo will then face each other in the final match of the day.
Tickets for the Marx Halle are still available.
Tuesday promises top-class tennis across both venues, highlighted by the eagerly anticipated opening appearances of Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev.
