Known for his spectacular shot-making and unorthodox style that delights the crowd, Alexander Bublik showed his composed side in his opening match at the Erste Bank Open. The Kazakh breezed past Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo 6–4, 6–4 in just 68 minutes to secure his spot in the round of 16.
A bit longer, but no less convincing, was the performance of Brandon Nakashima. The American, ranked No. 32 in the world, defeated Italy’s Luciano Darderi – six places above him in the rankings – 6–2, 7–5 in 93 minutes on Center Court.
In a battle between two qualifiers, Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi overcame American Aleksandar Kovacevic 7–5, 6–4.
