Austria's only representative in the qualifying round of the Erste Bank Open had to bow out in the first round.

Against the Spaniard Jaume Munar, currently ranked 65th in the world and therefore almost 130 positions higher than Rodionov, the Austrian started strongly and quickly got a break. Munar quickly equalized and finally made the decisive break to 7:5. In the second set, the Spaniard did not show any weakness and closed out the set 6:3.

Czech Jakub Mensik, who was seeded number 1 in the qualifiers, had no problems against Swiss Alexander Ritschard, winning 6:3, 6:4. Hungary's Marton Fucsovics also advanced just as safely, defeating the No. 2 seed Pavel Kotov in two sets.

Veteran Richard Gasquet delivered a surprise. The 38-year-old Frenchman defeated the Serbian Dusan Lajovic, ranked No. 75 in the world, 7:5, 7:6 (2).

Frenchman Alexandre Muller is also through to the second qualifying round, beating Germany's Maximilian Marterer in three sets. Brasilian Seyboth Wild ousted Spaniard Carreno Busta in straight sets.
