In 2024, Red Bull BassLine moved from Erste Bank Open 2 Go on the grounds of the Wiener Eislauf-Verein on Heumarkt to the Wiener Stadthalle for the first time. And the fans flocked in droves to this extraordinary event: 6 players battling it out for victory in short, crisp tie-break matches (up to 5 points and 2 sets won). Plus beats from a DJ, live pulse measurement for the players and interviews right on the court.
This year's line-up consisted of last year's winner Alexander Zverev (GER), the young Austrian star Joel Schwärzler, the two Italians Matteo Berrettini and Flavio Cobolli, as well as the Japanese Kei Nishikori and the Australian Alexei Popyrin.
The fans in the arena selected the players into two groups before the start. Zverev, Berrettini and Schwärzerl were in Group Blue, while Cobolli, Nishikori and Popyrin were in Group Red.
The group winners were decided after three matches each: Zverev had beaten Schwärzler 2-1 and Berrettini 2-0 in his matches. Popyrin had beaten Cobolli 2-1 and Nishikori 2-0.
Things then got really exciting in the final. Zverev took the first set, Popyrin the second. The Australian had three match points at 4-1 in the deciding set, but Zverev went one better and won the next four points to win the match and the tournament.
