Alcaraz made a perfect start, breaking de Minaur in the opening game. The Spaniard took control from the outset and added another break to move 3-0 ahead. De Minaur finally got on the scoreboard when serving at 0-4, but Alcaraz broke once more to wrap up the opening set 6-1 after 36 minutes.

De Minaur offers stronger resistance

The second set proved far more competitive. De Minaur settled into his service games and kept Alcaraz at bay for long periods. Trailing 3-4, the Australian saved a break point and held for 4-4.

Two games later, Alcaraz earned his first match point on de Minaur’s serve despite the Australian having led 30-0. After a spectacular rally featuring a drop shot and a lob, the Spaniard fired a cross-court forehand into the open court to seal a 6-1, 6-4 victory after one hour and 27 minutes.

Alcaraz thus capped a flawless tournament week in Vienna. The Spaniard did not drop a single set on his way to the title and added his name to the Erste Bank Open roll of honour for the first time.
