When indications emerged on Wednesday that the Six Kings Slam, originally scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia next week, would be postponed until the end of December, Tournament Director Herwig Straka reacted immediately and contacted Carlos Alcaraz’s management.
“Everything happened very quickly after that, and Carlos agreed to come to Vienna without much hesitation. I am delighted that we will be able to welcome him to the Erste Bank Open this year. He is one of the most exciting players and personalities on the ATP Tour and captivates an enormous global fanbase. His commitment is a tremendous honour for our tournament,” said Straka.
Return to Vienna after five years
Alcaraz will arrive in Vienna on Saturday, 24 October, and begin his preparations on site. His first-round match on Centre Court at the Wiener Stadthalle is scheduled for Tuesday, 27 October.
The Spaniard’s only previous appearance at the Erste Bank Open came five years ago. Now, Alcaraz is set to make his return to Austria’s leading ATP tournament. The 23-year-old has already won 27 ATP titles and claimed seven Grand Slam crowns. This season, he has triumphed at the Australian Open in Melbourne as well as in Doha and Tokyo.
Currently ranked World No. 3, Alcaraz will be seeded second in Vienna behind Alexander Zverev. Alongside Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, Flavio Cobolli, Alex de Minaur and Frances Tiafoe, his arrival means that no fewer than six Top 10 stars will compete at the Erste Bank Open.
An additional limited allocation of standing-room tickets has been released for Carlos Alcaraz’s first appearance on Tuesday.
