The 2025 Erste Bank Open final is still fresh in the minds of tennis fans: Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev produced a thrilling three-set battle at the Wiener Stadthalle before the Italian ultimately lifted the trophy. This season, their rivalry continued on the biggest stages in tennis.

Zverev finally made his long-awaited Grand Slam breakthrough at the French Open. The 2021 Vienna champion defeated Flavio Cobolli in a five-set final in Paris to claim his maiden major title. Just a few weeks later, he also reached the Wimbledon final – where Sinner was once again waiting. The South Tyrolean prevailed in four sets to successfully defend his title at the grass-court classic.

Zverev doubles up

But Zverev was not finished yet: At the US Open, the German defeated American Ben Shelton in the final to capture his second Grand Slam title of the year. With triumphs in Paris and New York as well as a runner-up finish at Wimbledon, the 29-year-old is enjoying the most successful major season of his career.

Reunion in Vienna

Now, both players are heading back to Vienna. Defending champion Sinner is aiming to complete a remarkable title hat-trick: He lifted the trophy on both of his most recent appearances at the Wiener Stadthalle in 2023 and 2025. Zverev, meanwhile, knows exactly what it feels like to win the Erste Bank Open, having triumphed in Vienna in 2021.

Whether the 2026 Erste Bank Open will feature a rematch of last year’s final remains to be seen. One thing is already certain: With Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev, two of the season’s dominant players – and three of the year’s four Grand Slam titles – are coming to Vienna.
