Medvedev and Musetti arrive in Vienna with momentum

The championship match did not begin as Medvedev had hoped. Basilashvili edged a closely contested opening set in a tie-break, but the World No. 5 then took firm control. Medvedev did not drop a single service game and fired 22 aces on his way to an emphatic 6–7(6), 6–1, 6–3 victory.

Successful title defence

With his second consecutive triumph in Almaty, Medvedev claimed the 25th ATP Tour title of his career and successfully defended a tournament title for the first time. It was also already his fourth title of the season.

Vienna champion faces BassLine winner

Medvedev will now travel directly to Vienna. The 2022 Erste Bank Open champion is seeded third and will face Daniel Mérida in the opening round. The 22-year-old Spaniard already caused a stir at the Wiener Stadthalle on Friday when he claimed the Red Bull BassLine title.

The fans can therefore look forward to an intriguing opening-round encounter between two players beginning the new week with a tournament victory under their belts. Medvedev will certainly arrive in Vienna with plenty of confidence and momentum.

Musettialso triumphs ahead of Vienna

Medvedev is not the only player arriving in Vienna with a trophy in his luggage: Lorenzo Musetti produced an impressive performance against Taylor Fritz in the Lyon final, claiming a 6–3, 6–4 victory. The Italian will have little time to celebrate, however, as a blockbuster opening-round encounter awaits him at the Erste Bank Open. Musetti will face sixth-seeded American Frances Tiafoe at the Wiener Stadthalle.
