Alexander Zverev is aiming to secure his third title of the season next week at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna. However, the German's performance at the Austrian ATP 500 event will also play a crucial role in shaping his path to the top of the PIF ATP Rankings.
Should Zverev reach the quarter-finals in Vienna, the German is guaranteed to become World No. 1 for the first time in his career on 2 November, overtaking Jannik Sinner for the top spot.
The German is drawn to face #NextGenATP Spaniard Martin Landaluce in the first round. If Zverev triumphs, he would then face this week's Brussels finalist Tallon Griekspoor or Montreal finalist Brandon Nakashima for a place in the last eight.
Zverev, this year’s Roland Garros and US Open champion, has already guaranteed himself ATP Year-End No. 1 presented by PIF honours. The 29-year-old will climb to World No. 1 in November, it is just a matter of exactly when.
Zverev will become only the second German player to reach the pinnacle of the PIF ATP Rankings, after Boris Becker in 1991. A two-time Nitto ATP Finals champion, Zverev wwill become the 30th member of the prestigious ATP No. 1 Club and the first new member since Sinner in June 2024.
