Miedler and Oberleitner underlined their impressive form with another commanding performance in the final. After defeating the Portuguese-American pairing of Francisco Cabral and JJ Tracy in straight sets, the two Austrians were able to lift an ATP Tour trophy together for the first time.
Their run in Shanghai was remarkable: Miedler and Oberleitner did not drop a single set on their way to the title. Their victories included wins against experienced doubles specialists Austin Krajicek and Nikola Mektić as well as Jakob Schnaitter and Mark Wallner in the semi-finals.
For both players, it is the biggest success of their partnership to date – and their maiden title at ATP Masters 1000 level. Miedler has now won 14 ATP Tour titles, while Oberleitner celebrated his second triumph following his victory in Winston-Salem.
New partnership quickly finds its rhythm
Miedler and Oberleitner have only recently joined forces on the ATP Tour. They had already demonstrated how well they work together during Austria’s Davis Cup tie against Belgium in September. Their victory over Sander Gillé and Joran Vliegen earned an important point in Austria’s 3-1 win and helped secure a place in the Final 8 featuring the world’s top eight nations.
After reaching the quarter-finals at the ATP 500 event in Tokyo, the pair have now pulled off a major triumph in Shanghai in only their second ATP tournament together.
Home appearance at the Marx Halle
With the Masters trophy in their luggage, Miedler and Oberleitner will now head directly to the Erste Bank Open. At the Marx Halle, the Austrian duo will face some of the best doubles teams in the world as they aim to continue their winning run in front of a home crowd.
Vienna has traditionally been a particularly successful tournament for Miedler. He won the title alongside Alexander Erler in 2022 and 2024 before returning to the final with Francisco Cabral last year. The Austrian will now launch his next bid for home glory with his new partner Neil Oberleitner.
Following their triumph in Shanghai, one thing is certain: The two Austrians will arrive in Vienna not only as the leading home hopes, but also as newly crowned Masters champions.
