The tournament begins with the quarter-finals at the Marx Halle on Thursday, 29 October. The semi-finals follow on Friday, before the grand final takes place on Centre Court at the Wiener Stadthalle from 12:30 pm on Saturday.
Two Austrians with big ambitions
One of Austria’s most promising young players, Maximilian Taucher, will make his Erste Bank Open debut. The 18-year-old from Vorarlberg is a former junior World No. 1 and six-time junior Grand Slam champion (3 singles and 3 doubles titles). The reigning Austrian champion has already claimed titles in Split, Trnava and Cagnes-sur-Mer this season.
“There is nothing better for me than playing in front of a big crowd – it gives me an incredible boost,” says Taucher ahead of his Vienna debut.
Austria’s No. 1 and the tournament’s Playing Ambassador, Nico Langmann, returns following last year’s successful premiere. After suffering a herniated disc, the 29-year-old has made an impressive comeback this season, winning tournaments in Amiens and Bucharest. “Last year’s premiere was a great success, and this year we want to take it one step further,” says Langmann.
Three Top-5 stars in Vienna
The international field is equally impressive: Alfie Hewett, Martin De La Puente and defending champion Gordon Reid, the World Nos. 2, 3 and 5, will all compete in Vienna. In addition to the singles competition, the programme includes two doubles exhibitions – one of them featuring Langmann and Taucher as a team.
“Singles, doubles, practice sessions with the top stars and wheelchair tennis – everyone plays under one roof at the Marx Halle. That is precisely the equality we want to achieve,” emphasises Tournament Director Herwig Straka. Together with Austrian Lotteries and win2day, the Erste Bank Open are once again giving wheelchair tennis the stage that elite sporting performances deserve.
Tickets for the Marx Halle are available from €25 per day and include admission to the ATP matches, the wheelchair tennis tournament and the tennis stars’ practice sessions.
