Filip Misolic narrowly missed out on his first-ever ATP 500 quarterfinal, falling to Australia’s Alex de Minaur 4-6, 4-6. With the win, de Minaur eliminated a second Austrian in a row, after defeating Jurij Rodionov in the previous round.
The match began in the worst possible way for Austria’s top player, who was broken in the opening game and spent the rest of the set trying to catch up, while de Minaur remained untouchable on serve.
In the second set, Misolic once again showed that he can compete with the tour’s elite, but an early break proved costly. Midway through the set, he had three chances to break back but couldn’t convert any of them. From there, de Minaur stayed solid, served out the match confidently, and booked his spot in Friday’s quarterfinals.
